Introduction Ms. Ana B. Moreno as New Chief of UN-Habitat Bangkok Office

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce that, with effect 7 January 2019, Ms. Ana B. Moreno has started her duty as a new chief of the UN-Habitat Bangkok Office.

Bangkok is a UN-wide regional hub with over 2,400 staff contributing to 28 specialized UN agencies, many of which have regional or sub-regional mandates, Bangkok is also the only duty station globally where the Regional Economic Commission and UN-Habitat are physically co-located.

UN-Habitat presence and impact in Bangkok is more than ever relevant, in the context of the SG’s reform of the UN Development System. and for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda at the country and regional level. As Chief of the UN-Habitat Bangkok Office, Ana will also be the UN-Habitat representative to Thailand, and the UN-Habitat Regional Office focal point for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

As you know, Ana has been working for UN-Habitat since 2011. She also worked at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in 2001 and 2002. She coordinated the three sessions of the World Urban Forum in Naples (September 2012), in Medellin (April 2014) and in Kuala Lumpur (February 2018). She was the Coordinator of the Habitat III Conference held in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2016.

With more than twenty years’ experience, she is a specialist in intergovernmental processes, strategic management of projects and mega-events at local, national and global level, as well as partnerships and advocacy platforms. Ana has broad experience in the public sector and has collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on various projects. She also worked at the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Spain, as well as the City Council of Barcelona. She holds degrees in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Journalism, both obtained from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

I kindly request your cooperation in sharing information on any current, planned or future engagements in Thailand by your Branches, Units or Countries with UN agencies such as ESCAP and all other partners based in Thailand so as to enhance in-house communication and coordination as well as demonstrate our solidarity to them.
