The World Urban Campaign (WUC) is a global coalition of public, private and civil society partners seeking to raise the urban agenda to a new level. Coordinated by UN-Habitat, but owned and driven by a long list of committed partners, the WUC provides the necessary environment for collaboration. The WUC seeks to raise global awareness of sustainable urbanization and to facilitate more coherent strategies and actions by development partners working at the national and local levels. 

UN-Habitat’s programmes are articulated in the six-year medium term Strategic Plan and the biennial work programmes and budgets. In 2014, UN-Habitat commenced implementation of its second generation of the six-year medium term Strategic Plan (2014-2019) which was approved by the Governing Council in April 2013. The Strategic Plan has a results framework and a performance measurement plan which are the basis for planning, monitoring and reporting. The Strategic Plan is being implemented through three successive two-year work programmes and budgets for 2014-2015, 2016-2017 and 2018-2019.

The Donor Relations and Income Management unit is responsible for enhancing resources for sustainable urbanization programmes in UN-Habitat.  One of the objectives of the unit is to increase the level of resources from governments, local authorities, private sector, foundations, and other donors. The United Nations Human Settlements (UN-Habitat) is the lead United Nations agency for Cities and Human Settlements.  The agency was established as the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS), through the General Assembly Resolution 32/162 of December 1977, following the first global Conference of United Nations on Human Settlements that was held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976.

Fast growing cities and urban areas of the world are engines of growth and wealth accumulation. This growth can have positive social, cultural and educational impacts. On the other hand, evidence demonstrates that fast economic growth, combined with fast population expansion in urban areas, also increases disaster vulnerability and exposure. The level of urbanization is far higher in the developed world;

The level of urbanization is far higher in the developed world; however, the annual ‘urbanization rate’ is much faster in the developing world.

The United Nations Human Settlements Program, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. This position is located in the Regional Office for Africa, UN-HABITAT. The incumbent will be reporting to the Program Management Officer.
