It is said that there is a time for work and a time for play. At HabPost, we truly believe that it is just as important to work, play, love, pause, reflect, and regenerate. That is why today we mark a pause and dedicate our feature story to mental health. COVID-19 is still very much with us and with it its effects on our well-being. It is important to recognize things aren’t as usual, and that it is fine for our own individual answer not to be usual either. To help us cope, our story provides tips and links to resources to better take care of our mind and body. Let us all take a step back, breathe, and refocus on the essential.

Earlier this year, we took stock of progress a year after the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF10). Looking ahead, we explore in today’s issue the theme of WUF11 and the preparations in the lead-up to the conference. Spoiler alert (if you hadn’t noticed the cover): we have a new, bright, playful logo to help us gather the troops. On an unrelated note, tomorrow’s Eild-al-Fitr and this explains why we’re slightly ahead of schedule in getting HabPost to you this week. You’ll find a Talking Head on this topic inviting you to explore different celebrating possibilities during a pandemic. We also provide a refresher on the Donor Information System so that all colleagues may access the information they need in their quest for donors. Quite the blend!

The first session of the Executive Board for the year 2021 took place last week, so we’re condensing the two-day discussions and presentations into a few highlights for you to digest and stay on top of things. We also looked at the HabPost survey results, and we’re happy to say we’re rolling out success stories as they’re in demand. We’re two weeks away from the first session of the Executive Board for the year 2021. UN-Habitat is turning into a beehive with many colleagues joining hands and intensifying their efforts for a common purpose. In this issue, you will learn what the Board is expected to table next month and ways you can help deliver a smooth and successful session. There’s a lot going on at the moment, so we’ve also tried to keep you abreast of important messages you might have missed and opportunities you should seize. Having said that, Easter is just around the corner and even busy bees take a break from all their hard work. We wish everyone season’s greetings and a restful few days — if you don’t break, you can’t dance!

8 March was International Women’s Day, so we’re seizing the opportunity to both celebrate and share a bit on our efforts towards gender equality and gender parity. It’s a contest without many hurdles, but the vision and the passion remain intact. Join us in celebrating women, making a change, and thanking all the women in our lives.

One year into our Strategic Plan 2020-2023, and roughly a year into COVID-19, we wanted to share with you the latest implementation report of one of our regional offices — the Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) — and highlight what was accomplished in the region in the fight against COVID-19. Check out our highly visual feature story to know what was done in the field, as well as our interview with Erfan Ali, the Regional Representative for ROAS. Remember, you can monitor the global COVID-19 situation online. Also remember to stay alert even as vaccines are being rolled out — Japan has for instance confirmed last week the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19. And while Africa’s confirmed death toll from COVID-19 has passed 100,000 — only a fraction of other continents — deaths are rising sharply, particularly in the south. So be cautious, and be safe.

It is soon the end of a very unique year. Unique for the world as we continue to fight the ongoing pandemic, and unique for us a an agency having to grapple with the added challenges brought about by the effects of the disease on our work and the communities we serve. In this last issue for the year 2020, we focus on tips and tricks to better tell our story. As we move towards another year of challenges, we need to recognize that the way we communicate our impact will be crucial in making us stand out.
