Update and call for votes for the Global Alliance for Urban Crisis: World Humanitarian Summit

07 Oct 2015

Dear Colleagues,

Next week the final Global Consultations (14-16 October) are taking place for the World Humanitarian Summit (23-24 May 2016). At the Consultations our Deputy Executive Director will be speaking on the panel "What to expect in the future". The Summit is an initiative of the Secretary-General and intends to reshape the humanitarian system.

UN-Habitat has contributed with DFID, IFRC, UCLG and IRC to ensure that there was an urban track towards the Summit. I would like to express appreciation to our colleagues in New York, Brussels and RRRB for providing the valuable contributions which have brought us so far.

We are happy to note that there is a clear call coming out of the World Humanitarian Summit Consultations, to build a Global Alliance for Urban Crises to change the way we prevent, prepare for and respond to urban crises. The proposal is to build a platform that unites municipal authorities, urban professionals, the private sector and development actors to set a common agenda and channel strategic investments.

It is one of the 31 major proposals put forward by the World Humanitarian Summit. Do http://voices.worldhumanitariansummit.org/ before 16 October. It is under 'Resilience.'

Kindly also find attached the final Synthesis Report on all the WHS Consultations.

Warm greetings

Andre
